Mobile phones As a Fashion Accessory

By | December 28, 2012

The importance of fashion has increased over the years. People want to look trendy and wear clothes and accessories that are in vogue. Wearing the right clothes with the right shoes aren’t the only things that matter. Mobile phones are now being seen as a fashion accessory along with handbags, scarves, hats and shoes. Mobile phones have become an important factor in judging a person’s fashion quotient. A phone is now much more just a communication tool. It has become a status symbol and a style statement.

Marketing

One of the main reasons why mobile phones are considered as a fashion accessory is lavish marketing campaigns by mobile phone companies. They promote the mobile phones in such a way that people consider them to be a fashion accessory. Companies spend millions of pounds in designing visually appealing phones and create hype around the product to attract trendy, fashion conscious customers. The mobile phone of the 80’s was like a brick, bulky and clumsy in looks. Today, phones are much smaller, sleeker and stylish. Plenty of mobile accessories are available to change colour, casing and the overall look of the handset.

Designer Cases

Today’s Fashionistas are willing to spend money in personalising the looks of their phone, just like they are willing to spend loads of money on handbags, dresses, shoes and accessories. There is a huge demand for attractive mobile phone covers and other accessories. This has led to the discovery of a major new industry.

Big brands such as Gucci, Ed Hardy and so forth have come up with designer cases for phones. With the increasing popularity of phones, people want to differentiate themselves from others and want to make a fashion statement.

Designer Hand Sets

The manufacturers have also come up with new and unique models which make mobile phones a fashion accessory. Some of the fashionable phones are Blackberry Curve 3G in pink, Nokia 5230 in pink and silver, and Sony Ericsson Zylo in silver. Alcatel OT 880 is a very cool looking phone with a futuristic design. Samsung S7070 Diva with the ice white frame and the pink screen looks adorable.

Manufacturers have introduced gold plated and diamond embedded mobile phones. Swarovski has joined up with various manufacturers to provide a posh touch to the handsets. The size and shape of some phones are designed to make a fashion statement.

Ever-Faster Obsolescence

Nowadays, people frequently replace their existing mobile phones with the latest models on the market. Businessmen prefer carrying the latest business phones, usually solidly designed with a black finish, so that they don’t feel embarrassed in front of their colleagues and clients. College students like to have the trendiest phones as the choice of their peers influences them. It is not only rich people who consider their phones as a fashion accessory, even less affluent people have personalised their phones to make a statement by using stickers, jewellery and covers.

Are You a Phone Fashionista?

There are still some people who do not consider a phone as a fashion statement. However, they are in the minority. The number of people who consider phones as a fashion accessory has increased in the last few years. People like to flaunt their phones; the way the carry their phone around speaks volumes about their attitude and style.

Phil Turner was checking out iPhone deals recently and decided that he does not want a fashion phone.

The iPhone 5 – Apple’s Upcoming Masterpiece

By | August 3, 2012

New photographs of the iPhone 5 were supposedly posted over the internet this week, which has triggered a massive excitement amongst Apple fans all over the world.

The pictures, whose legitimacy and credibility still remains a question, demonstrate a thinner and taller version of the iPhone. The size and layout of the buttons on the phone is also quite different, and it appears to be at least 5mm taller than the iPhone 4S.

Forecasts are being made as to what the probable software and hardware technical specs of the iPhone 5 could be. Speculations that are circulating over online message boards discuss about the addition of numerous completely new functionalities to the phone. One of these may possibly be the Near Field Communication (NFC) feature, that allows users to use their phones as ‘swipe cards’ over retail pads in order to pay for shopped goods.

The release date for the iPhone 5 is due to be set sometime in 2012 (mid to late). The number of orders for the current iPhones has reportedly reduced by more than 25%, prior to the release of the n.

You may be holding your brand new iPhone 5 in your hands by the end of this year.

Terry Gou, CEO of Foxconn, the Taiwanese multinational consumer electronics giant who will be manufacturing the new iPhone 5, remarks that the new phone will be considerably superior than the present market leader, the Samsung Galaxy S3. He however refrained from announcing further how this was. It is to be taken into account that Foxconn is the manufacturer behind all of Apple’s earlier iPads and iPhones.

The original dock connector might be replaced with a newer version in the iPhone 5. It is also being said that the iPhone 5 will feature bigger speakers, as well as a headphone socket on its base.

Smartphone experts are hoping for Apple to introduce 4G technology into the iPhone 5. For those of you unacquainted with the term, 4G is the fourth generation of cellular communication standards, that provide enhanced telephony experience, with hi-tech capabilities such as cellular ultra-broadband web access, gaming services, high-definition cellular television, 3D television, and video conferencing, among many others.

When we look at the leaked images, we can see that the new phone has been significantly remodeled. The screen appears to be larger in size, and it may very well be 4 inches long. This could reflect Apple’s intention to compel the PC tablet market into purchasing its iPhone 5, instead of the conventional, standard-sized tablets.

In spite of rumours, Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook has rejected the possibility of the iPhone 5 featuring a larger screen size. He holds that the company has one phone, which has a standardized size, and this standardized approach has been adopted by Apple for all of its earlier iPhones. At the same time, the new iPhone 5 is expected to have a screen resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels.

Speculations are on-going in regards to what could possibly be the technical specifications of the iPhone 5’s camera. It could very well be an 8, or quite possibly, a 12 megapixel camera. The latter is the more popular opinion, due to the fact that Sony will be developing its sensors, which has already delivered a 12MP camera in its Xperia S phone.

Apple could opt for liquid metal to construct the casing of the iPhone 5. Liquid metal is a strong alloy, and has various unique properties. Furthermore, Apple has a 2 year exclusive contract to use the technology, which it also previously used to manufacture the SIM card ejector tray tool for its iPhone 3G.

Were you let down with the launch of the iPhone 4S, as many other were? It wasn’t the groundbreaking reveal that we were anticipating. A lot more pressure is now on Apple to get it right with the iPhone 5.

How to Prolong the Life of your Phone Battery

By | October 21, 2011

The best thing about mobile phones is, well, that they are mobile, but unfortunately that comes with a limitation. Even though you can use them wherever the signal is available you still can’t use them for as long as you might like. You are limited by the life of your battery, and depending on the manufacturer, the model and the way you use your phone, that life might be too short for your liking. Luckily, there are measures you can take and habits you can try to develop if you want to extend that life.

First of all it is important to remember that your Bluetooth and infra red are wasting a lot of energy when they’re on even if they are not actively transmitting data, whenever you use them you should remember to turn them off after.

One of the other things you should definitively try to avoid whenever you can is vibration mode. Sometimes you don’t really have a choice and you have to use it because your current circumstances demand it, but at any other time you should make sure that it is off as it consumes a lot of energy.

The type and strength of the network reception in your area also have significant influence on your battery’s life. Phones operating on the GSM network have much longer battery life than the ones using 3G, of course most people wouldn’t sacrifice speed and efficiency of the newer network just to make the phone work slightly longer, but some might consider it a fair trade off.

Also, if your network signal is weak your phone will be struggling to establish a connection and as a result it will drain the battery faster, if you are in an area with bad reception you might think about turning your phone off, it usually isn’t of much use anyway and you’ll save a lot of power.

Your phone’s display is another big spender; you should lower the brightness as far as you can, as this is one of the main sources of energy drain. Following the same logic, you shouldn’t have active flashy screen-savers with animations, or just about anything else that will make your display work overtime, a nice entertaining black is just as fun not to look at as a colourful, lively cartoon and it requires far less energy.

The same goes for games, if you need your battery to last long you should refrain from playing them on your phone, they not only use the display but more often than not, you also need sound, and the speakers can be just as effective at draining your phone as display. That is why listening to music on your phone is also on the list.

Other things to remember are the power save mode option that most nokia mobile phones have and that you should definitely think about using, freeing up as much memory space as you can, and of course, talking which might be the activity that drains your phone the most.

Needles to say, battery life is just not that important to most people and these measures are often not worth considering, but if you only adopted some of the necessary habits you might make your battery last longer without having to sacrifice all the things that made you buy the phone in the first place.

What you need to know
This LG Optimus 2X on Android features a 8 Mega Pixel camera and features an IPS screen like the iPhone but bigger and many will find it more usable. It is rumoured that the iPhone 5 when released will use this exact same screen, although this is yet to be confirmed.

Speed of this phone is it’s strong point with dual core processors although many argue that dual core use is limited in a mobile phone at the moment and is a feature that is yet to be fully developed so more to come in this area.

For £329 this is available sim free which is an incredible deal given it was around the £500 mark a few months ago.

It can be had for around £20 per month on an 18 month contract for those that prefer the cost spread which works out around £360. Obviously down to choice and if you are happy to be in a long contract or not. If you have a good bundle deal from your existing network then obviously a sim only mobile would work better.

For more offers on this mobile either use the search tool on the right hand side or click here.

The world of mobile phones however is very much swings and roundabouts, some will love the LG Optimus 2X mobile whilst others will prefer the likes of the HTC Desire. Having said that the LG Optimus 2X does have better battery life, internal memory and a better camera than the HTC Desire (interestingly we featured a very good offer on the Desire here a few weeks ago).

Pay Monthly Deals

By | November 29, 2010

Pay Monthly Deals
Pay Monthly also known as a Contract is when you pay for your mobile on a monthly basis rather than a Pay As You Go (PAYG) / Prepay option whereby you add credit to your mobile phone when you existing balance runs out. This latter is usually done by topping up your mobile in one of the many methods such as buying a topup card, calling a number (depending on your network) or even through a cash machine.

Cheaper than SIM Free
Pay Monthly is the most popular way of owning a mobile phone in the UK and is the easiest way of having the latest phone as it avoids the need to pay a large sum of money (usually >£400) for the latest handset if you looked at going down the SIM free route.

Pay Monthly Benefits
Another benefit of Pay Monthly Deals is that you get a bundled allocation of minutes, text message and more often than not internet usage. A more recent trend is to offer unlimited text messages and unlimited internet with monthly contract bundles, which in other words gives the user a set number of minutes per month to use along with what the networks call unlimited text message and internet although in reality this is restricted to a fair usage policy with the amount depending on each Network.

Pay Montly Networks
You will find that T-Mobile, Vodafone, Orange, 3 Mobile and O2 as networks offer different tariffs and deals meaning that choosing the right network can be a timely exercise. It is worth however comparing the latest pay monthly deals to make sure you get the most for your money.

Finding The Best Deal
For example some networks offerr 24 month deals whilst you may be able to get a similar deal on another network for 18 months, meaning that you save yourself paying 6 months of the appropriate line rental and this allows you to get your next new mobile sooner.

You also need to consider how many minutes and text messages you get for your money as deals between this different networks can vary hugely. If you know how many minutes and text messages you use per month you can often shop around and find the best deal using handy comparison tools such as the one on the top right hand side of the page.

Existing Network Deals
What we also suggest doing is using the tool to find the best offer and then speaking to your existing mobile phone network to see if they will match the offer or if possible beat it in order for them to keep you as a customer as more often than not they may be able to offer you a better deals (unless the deal you have found is a really good one).
